The Revival of Tower Square

In the summer of 2017, The name ‘Marriott’ was removed from the Facade of the Town square - an office/retail complex - and replaced with Tower Square Hotel. The complex's former owner, MassMutual, was putting the property on the market. Tower Square has been a downtown Springfield landmark, but before the Springfield hospitality group took over, things looked like they weren't going nicely for Tower Square. Marriott had unflagged the hotel, and when it had presented the previous owner with a long list of needed renovations and upgrades, MassMutual decided that those expenditures were not worth making.

Dinesh Patel - a partner in the Springfield hospitality Group expressed, “When we looked at the Tower square as a possible investment, we saw an opportunity where perhaps some didn't”. Another Partner, Vid Mitta, stated, “With Tower Square as a prominent landmark in the city's downtown, we can bring all kinds of businesses, not just retail, to this location”.

With this optimism, they had aspired to be the most prestigious hotel in Western Massachusetts. They wanted the renovations and improvements to position the hotel in a way that fully takes advantage of the momentum of being seen in downtown Springfield. They also believed that when artists like Stevie Wonder and Cher came to the city, the place would require many more rooms than it already had. That would create opportunities for a lot of businesses. And if the hotel is business-friendly with an array of amenities, people would prefer to stay downtown.

New face for a new vision.

The revived hotel would provide a fresh lease on life for the surrounding areas by inviting more business into the region. An essential factor for the business revival becomes a change in the public image of Tower Square. The facade of a building plays an influential role in the brand image of the business running it. Tower Square's facade needed redesigning to discard the previous notion of the business being unsuccessful - and to mark its revival and upcoming success. The group thus appointed us, Graniti Vicentia, to help them rebuild a healthy brand image through its facade design and place Marriott Springfield as a leader in the hospitality business.

The return of the ‘M’ symbol

Having the Marriott's name brings a lot of credibility because of the promise of value it gives to the visitors and guests. It, in turn, also promises the hotel good business since it has to comply with the high standards required by Mariott. The new investors, Springfield Hospitality group, were determined to bring the Marriott name back to the hotel. It was possible to achieve this feat because of the relentless efforts of many stakeholders. Graniti Vicentia played the role of designing and executing the renewed face of the hotel with the facade design. After a rigorous renovation process, the Hotel finally got back its lost Marriott branding. We are proud to be a part of the process to bring back the lost glory of Tower Square and help bring prosperity to Downtown Springfield.

Our role in the success of this Project

The project provided many challenges for Graniti Vicentia. The materials specified for the project were out of budget. We helped them achieve this gap through our products and services. We supplied the GV porcelain panel, which costs considerably less in comparison to the Equitone panels. As the concrete wall area where the facade was to be installed was hollow, additional structural support & anchoring screws were used to comply with the structure of the building for our system.  Because we have an in-house technical unit - structural engineer GV expedited a solution without negatively impacting the cost or project timeline. Graniti Vicentia helped the Springfield hospitality group achieve their goals while complying with their budget requirements and thus realizing the initiation of downtown Springfield revival.
